Dare Sweet from Stockholm Sweden To Lagos Nigeria – The Takeover of a young Nigerian Genius

The Nigerian music scene is experiencing an eclosion of new acts who bring variety and diversity to the industry. Among these creative minds we can count the young, talented and creative Dare Sweet a Nigeria-Swedish Afro-Pop Yoruba artist born in Jakande Estate Nigeria and raised in Stockholm Sweden.


Early Life- Dare Sweet, A son from Jakande Estate.

Oladare Idowu was born in Lagos Nigeria, in Jakande Estate Isolo. He is from the Yoruba ethnic group of southwestern part of Ogun State, in Central Nigeria. He attended Ilupeju Secondary School In Isolo local government then later moved to Alabgado where he enrolled at Boptop Comprehensive College Lagos. While attending Bopton College he represented his school alongside his pairs at the Golden Rockers inter-school Dance competition which was televised on the national TV. Oladare (legal name) Graduated from Bopton Comprehensive College in 2006, after which he later went on to enroll for a Mercedez Benz Specialist skill at Ikotun Lagos Nigeria. In 2009 After a year of learning about Mercedez Benz, Oladare Moved to Stockholm Sweden.

Dare Sweet Sweden’s Afro-pop Prince

Arriving in Sweden, Dare lived with his father in Stockholm where he enrolled for the “IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM” (IB: International Baccalaureate). Oladare attended IB for three years and later moved away from Stockholm to Växjö Sweden where he gained admission to Linnea University Växjö to study Software Engineering.


As an afro-pop recording artist in Stockholm Sweden, Dare Sweet has performed on stage with international acts of the likes of Busy Signal, Gyptian, Marlon Arsha (Ganja Farmar), Davido in France, KCEE, 2face Idibia, Sound Sultan, Baba Dee(Naija Ninjas) and Many more. He has also performed and wowed audiences both inside and outside Sweden. He was featured as an international act in London at Kida Kurdz and Friends Concert where he performed alongside Krept & Konan, Kojo Funds, Abra Cadabra, and Olamide, all these helped him earn the title of  “Sweden’s Afro-pop Prince”.


Prior to the release of his usual end of the year, “EP” Tilled “Turn Up” he headlines his own concert in Stockholm on Oct 28th, 2017 which was also tilled and headlined “Turn Up Night: Dare Sweet and Friends” hosted by Emax Entertainments. The concert took place in Rågsved and features top Stockholm based musicians and fashion designers in the African and diaspora community. 

Music Career – “Music is my life”, Said Dare Sweet

The Music journey of the young Dare Sweet started as a street dancer at his very young age; He was born in a family of four boys, he is the second son of his parents. Dare’ love for music and his home country is what gives him the drive to continue supplying his genie to this unfair and poisonous industry. Dare Sweet has held hostage the Afro-pop Scene in European but his dream of being recognized and appreciated by his home nation is a defy that saddens him and one he hopes to clinch very soon.

His music revolves around the afro-beats genre, but he likes to describe his music as Afro-Pop. However, his style of music can also be quite mellow at times giving a reggae feel to some of his songs or sometimes jazz music with a blend of Afrobeat, Dare Sweet is a versatile musician.

Dare Sweet also participated in many talent shows; in 2006 he won 1st place to perform with his group in the Golden Rockers talent show, which was featured on Nigerian television. While In Sweden  Dare Sweet in 2009 with Executive Records; who soon enough developed his musical talent and decide to officially record and release his debut single entitled “You Rock Me Bad” Prd By Trezo (Sweden). After dropping several singles and an album Dare Sweet and Executive records mutually decide it was time to pathways. The Prince of Sweden’s Afro-Pop didn’t stay as an independent artist for too long as in late 2017 he gets in to a partnership with Mans Records/Elite Entertainment boss Chrislan Maneng’s to work on a comeback single “LifeStyle” aiming at earning a place of choice in the Nigerian music scene and expanding his brand to his motherland.

Dare Sweet has many other talents apart from music and has been involved in various stage performances, from MCing to dancing. Dare is very passionate about his music and in a deep conversation with his friend from the RQ house of fame, he strongly quoted that “Music is my life, it is not just a hustle.” Sweet’s aim is to use the power of music to positively change one’s state of mind or mood, he also wants people to feel the music from his own perspective. In an interview, he quotes “I want to explore the world with peace and contribute to making the world a better place; that is my dream.”
